There are those who will say that humans deserve death because of what they have doe to Earth. Because they have polluted it, laid it low, made it into a tool for their use and abuse. Because of what they have done to what amounts to a great ball of gas and dirt, it is said that humans need to die.

No matter how you look at it, however, earth is not a living being. Earth is a thing. A planet cannot be alive. The things on it--plants, animals, humans--can be, but the planet itself cannot.

So then, what are you arguing for? The eradication of something living in return for something nonliving. You would wish humans never existed; you would destroy cave paintings and the sculptures of Michelangelo for a ball of dust. For an inanimate globe which merely orbits the sun, you would destroy the Mona Lisa and smash the Great Wall of China into pieces.

But at the same time, those who would spare humanity must face the fact that humanity devours all that it touches. Plants, animals, natural beauty, all of these are devoured and crushed under human hands. Likewise, humans hurt and break one another without regard for the well-being that they should share. They focus on differences though they have many more likenesses.

But if something is beautiful and nothing is there to observe it, can it be truly beautiful?

Petty arguments and idealistic outlooks will not win this war.

Fight for what side you will, it doesn't matter. But do not try to rationalize. Both sides are right. Both sides are wrong.

    That is all.

A happy new year to you all.

I suppose we'll see if things end now.

    ...Alessandra has been disposed of.

I somehow doubt she would have remained among our number for much longer, anyway.

My doctor has let me come home.

I am to stay off my feet for at least a week. Possibly more.

    This is useless.

The battle will take place even if we make no use of it.
